The Locket by Stacey Jay

Publication Date: February 3, 2011
Summary from Goodreads:

On her seventeenth birthday, Katie discovers a locket and decides to wear it for good luck. But when her boyfriend Isaac finds out she cheated on him— with their mutual best friend Mitch, no less—he dumps her, leaving her devastated.
And then a miracle happens. The locket burns on Katie's chest and she feels herself going back two weeks in time, to the night she cheated with Mitch. At first, Kate is delighted to be a better girlfriend to Isaac this time around. But as other aspects of her life become inexplicably altered, she realizes that changing the past may have had a dangerous effect on her present.
Can she make things right before the locket destroys everything—and everyone—she loves?

My Two Cents:

Let's talk about the characters. Katie, Isaac and Mitch are childhood friends. Katie's life pretty much revolves around her popular boyfriend Isaac's. She has to be at all his games and sit with his popular friends at lunch that don't even like her. Without Isaac she feels like an outsider and feels as though he defines her. Isaac is a popular jock and everyone loves him. He's a little selfish and self-absorbed without really knowing it. I believe if Katie really put her foot down with him about not being there for her he might have made the effort to try. Mitch is my favorite character. He's attentive, hilarious, and seems like a lot of fun to be around. He's also lead singer of his own band. No wonder Katie ended up kissing him!

When Katie's boyfriend Isaac finds out that she kissed Mitch, her life gets turned upside down. Isaac wants nothing to do with her and she feels as if she'd do anything to get that moment back. Next thing you know the locket that she "borrowed" from her grandmother's jewelry begins to burn and she's transported back to before the kiss. When this happens she's all excited thinking she can get in there, be the best girlfriend she can be, stay away from Mitch and everything will be all good. Ummmm....NOT.

It's just like the butterfly effect. Once you try to change one thing lots of other things will change. When Katie does this time travel things become a lot clearer to her. She thought she had a great life before with Isaac  when now that she's analyzing everything she see's that it's not. She begins noticing more of his faults that all seem to have contributed to her kissing Mitch in the first place.

I really enjoyed this one. There's so much going on that you can't even try to predict what's coming up next. Stacey Jay tries something different and hits a home run.

Waiting on Wednesday (15)

Waiting on Wednesday highlights a book we are anxiously awaiting that hasn't been released yet and is hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine.

This Week's Pick:

Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey

Publication Date: June 21, 2011
Why I'm So Antsy:

Violet Willoughby doesn't believe in ghosts. But they believe in her. After spending years participating in her mother's elaborate ruse as a fraudulent medium, Violet is about as skeptical as they come in all matters supernatural. Now that she is being visited by a very persistent ghost, one who suffered a violent death, Violet can no longer ignore her unique ability. She must figure out what this ghost is trying to communicate, and quickly because the killer is still on the loose.

Afraid of ruining her chance to escape her mother's scheming through an advantageous marriage, Violet must keep her ability secret. The only person who can help her is Colin, a friend she's known since childhood, and whom she has grown to love. He understands the true Violet, but helping her on this path means they might never be together. Can Violet find a way to help this ghost without ruining her own chance at a future free of lies?

I fell in love with this author from The Drake Chronicles so I'm pretty confident that I'll love this one as well!

The Secret Book Blogger

Something has occurred to me over the past few months. Does anyone in your personal life (friends, family) know that you have a book blog? I come across a lot of blogs and I see thousands of followers. Do you personally know anyone who is in your followers list? I'll answer for myself. TWO. Out of my 570 followers I personally know two of them lol. Now I come to another question, are you embarrassed to show your friends and family that you have one? My boyfriend knows I have one and he teases me all the time but I don't care. Could that be the reason we don't shout it to the world that we have one? Afraid to be called a nerd?

Ironically, most YA book blogs are written by those over 18 so aren't we a little old to still be bothered by that? Or is it that we don't tell everyone because our blogs are our babies and we're very sensitive about them? An intern at my office last summer (teenager) somehow found my blog and showed the other interns. I felt...exposed I guess lol. It's silly but my blog is my private thoughts on books. People come to my blog to read about it, not to make fun of me. I suppose it's easier to "be a nerd" online than it is in person. What do you guys think?

Recently after making this discovery, I've begun telling people I personally know about my baby. I've handed them my business cards to show them that it's not a joke.Sometimes I've gotten laughed at and other times I've gotten great feedback. Sometimes even a look of shock. I suppose when people think of blogger or bookie they think of glasses, and a real homebody with no life (so I've been told). Yes I used to wear glasses but I LOVE to party also and then there are times when I'm content with just being home with a good book. I've tried explaining that all book bloggers are DIFFERENT.

I love the blogosphere and I want the people I love to know it!! If you are that secret blogger afraid to tell your friends and family about your affair with books and our whole community think about it. You shouldn't have to live a secret blogger lifestyle. I challenge you to tell ONE person.
